CO3D creates contests annually and you need to know the real reason for it

CO3D contest

Surely you’ve seen several contests going on social media. No matter what the branch, it is very common for companies and even famous artists to create cultural contests for their audiences with the most varied objectives. In this post, we will analyze how these events work and if it is really worth participating. So let’s go!

Registration is usually the first step to participate in a contest and you may have already noticed that, usually, championships have some kind of participation fee. This is to pay for the awards, judges, publicity and other possible expenses that may occur during the event. But, there are some cases in which companies sponsor the awards in order to publicize their brand/product and, therefore, participation is free. Here, at CO3D is like this!

If you’ve made it this far, you should already know that, for the third year in a row, we’re holding our own contest!

We count on the support of large companies in the 3D modeling and printing market and our main objective is to encourage modeling artists and 3D makers to create new projects, increasing their portfolio and improving their technique. With this, CO3D discloses its platform for buying and selling files for 3D printing and create better and better artists!

We need to remember here that no contest offers prizes for all participants and that is exactly what characterizes it. In any event of this nature, only a few artists are selected for the top positions and we know that this can cause some dissatisfaction or non-acceptance of the results. After all, we have different opinions and extremely different points of view!

In addition, deadlines can often be short, you can compete with many participants, and sometimes, at the end, you may even believe that your work was not valued as it should…

BUT THEN, IS IT WORTH OR NOT WORTH PARTICIPATING IN THIS TYPE OF EVENT?

Well, the answer is pretty cliché, but let’s explain.

Of course you know the famous phrase “the important thing is to compete”, right? Without a doubt, winning is very good! To have our work recognized, talked about and even awarded. On the other hand, we believe that participating in these events is already a great gain! Because? Check it out:

Deadlines will make you exercise discipline

When we have a deadline for delivery, we train for the reality of the market. Your customers will always give you a deadline and you will need to plan to meet them and deliver everything on time. The contest deadlines are often shorter, as there is the challenge factor to be met.

Experience generates portfolio for you

On a day-to-day basis, it is difficult to work on personal projects and, therefore, when we do not work for a company or are on confidential projects, it takes time to “fat” our portfolio. Participating in a contest is a great way to improve the presentation of your work!

Your work will be seen by great artists

At CO3D, we insist on inviting only the best of the market to evaluate the results! That’s why our contest has professional and renowned artists as judges, who will see all the works!

Your network can grow

In a contest, you have the opportunity to have contact with various artists from around the world and to see sensational works. You can be inspired, interact and even create a network to talk to after the event.

Finally, you have nothing to lose! On the contrary! Most contests are free and filled with legal prizes. And even those that don’t offer prizes have many participants, which shows that this experience is also very important for the artist’s career.

WIP?

And what does the acronym “WIP” that we see in all contests mean? It means “work in progress”. Artists frequently post WIPs to show the progress of their work.

And what is the purpose of this? For artists, the goal is to build engagement and get feedback before submitting their final entry. As for the event, the objective is to accompany the participants, help with the dissemination and also validate the veracity/authenticity of the project published on our platform for the contest (that is, if, in fact, it was the participant who created the project exclusively for the contest – when exclusivity applies to rules).

In our experience, we’ve noticed that some artists don’t like to post WIPs for fear of having their project copied or for fear of spoiling the surprise of creativity. We would like to bring another point of view on this!

First, WIP posting is usually not mandatory. This means that participants are free to choose to practice or not.

In addition, if there is no requirement for creativity in choosing the theme, even if several people make the same character in the same pose/style (which, let’s face it, would be very rare), the works will always be evaluated individually. Every detail made by each participant will be observed! In the case of a conceptual art modeling contest, for example, the works would be similar, but there are specificities present in each artist’s style and that’s what counts. Focus on your authenticity!

Go for fun!

TO COMPLETE…

Our suggestion? Participate in as many contests/competitions as you can! This kind of experience will improve your work and help you become a better professional. And every feedback, thank you. Remember that not winning doesn’t mean you lost. In contests, although only a few are awarded, everyone wins!
